Swiss Formula One team

Hinwil's Long Running Independent

Peter Sauber's Swiss team spent 33 seasons in Formula One under many names, winning once as BMW Sauber before becoming the base for Audi.

Peter Sauber founded his company in 1970 and built sports cars at Hinwil in Switzerland, winning at Le Mans with Mercedes before moving into Formula One in 1993. As an independent it became known for spotting young talent, giving early chances to Heinz Harald Frentzen, Kimi Räikkönen and Felipe Massa. Its cars carried a C in their names in honor of Sauber's wife, Christiane.

BMW bought the team and ran it as BMW Sauber, and Robert Kubica won the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix in that era. After BMW sold it back, Sergio Pérez finished second twice in 2012. Later it raced as Alfa Romeo Racing and then Kick Sauber, with Charles Leclerc among its drivers. From 1993 to 2025 the team started 614 Grands Prix across 33 seasons, before Audi acquired it to form the Audi F1 Team.
