Kamui Kobayashi raced in Formula One from 2009 to 2014 and finished third at the 2012 Japanese Grand Prix for Sauber.

Born in Amagasaki, Kamui Kobayashi raced in GP2 and was a Toyota reserve driver when the team gave him his Formula One debut at the 2009 Brazilian Grand Prix. In his second start, at Abu Dhabi, he finished sixth.

Toyota withdrew after that season, and he moved to Sauber for 2010, staying three years. His best day came at the 2012 Japanese Grand Prix, where he started third and finished third, a podium in front of his home crowd. After a season away he returned with Caterham in 2014, his last Formula One year, ending at Abu Dhabi with 75 starts. He then built a long career with Toyota in endurance racing, winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2021 and 2026 and later serving as team principal.
