Caterham's Three Seasons at Leafield

Tony Fernandes's team, born as Lotus Racing, raced as Caterham from 2012 to 2014 without a point before collapsing into administration.

Tony Fernandes's team entered Formula One in 2010 as Lotus Racing and raced in 2011 as Team Lotus. After a dispute over the Lotus name, Fernandes bought the British sports car maker Caterham Cars, and from 2012 the team raced as Caterham under a Malaysian license, based at the Leafield Technical Centre in Oxfordshire with Renault engines.

Caterham started 56 Grands Prix from 2012 to 2014 without scoring a point, its best finishes being eleventh places for Vitaly Petrov in Brazil in 2012 and Marcus Ericsson at Monaco in 2014. Heikki Kovalainen, Charles Pic, Giedo van der Garde and Kamui Kobayashi also drove for it. Fernandes sold the team in 2014, and within months it entered administration and missed two races. Crowdfunding got it to the 2014 finale in Abu Dhabi, but it was dropped from the 2015 entry list and its assets were auctioned.
