Panasonic Toyota Racing

2002 to 2009 Formula One team representing Toyota

Toyota's Eight Seasons From Cologne

The world's largest carmaker built a lavishly funded team in Germany, reached the podium 13 times and withdrew without a victory.

Panasonic Toyota Racing grew out of Toyota Motorsport in Cologne, Germany, the organization that had begun as Ove Andersson's rally team and gone on to rally titles and Le Mans campaigns. After a year of testing, the team made its debut in 2002, and Mika Salo scored a point by finishing sixth in its very first race in Australia.

Toyota started 139 Grands Prix from 2002 to 2009. Jarno Trulli and Timo Glock each finished second more than once, and Trulli and Ralf Schumacher took the team's three poles. Allan McNish, Olivier Panis and Cristiano da Matta also drove for it, and Kamui Kobayashi made his debut there. Despite one of the largest budgets in the sport it never won a race, and Toyota withdrew immediately after the 2009 season.
