His first win came at the 2001 San Marino Grand Prix at Imola, and he added victories in Canada and Germany that season to finish fourth. He won in Malaysia in 2002, again finishing fourth, and in 2003 he won the European Grand Prix at the Nürburgring and the French Grand Prix at Magny Cours on consecutive weekends. Those were the last of his six wins.

He left Williams after 2004 and spent three seasons with Toyota, taking podiums in 2005 and 2006 before leaving Formula 1 after 2007. His record shows 180 starts, 6 wins, 6 pole positions, 8 fastest laps and 27 podiums.
