Frentzen's Williams win and Jordan peak

Heinz Harald Frentzen finished runner up with Williams in 1997 and third with Jordan in 1999, winning three Grands Prix along the way.

Heinz Harald Frentzen was born in Mönchengladbach, Germany, on 18 May 1967. He started karting at 12 and won the junior German championship, moved into Formula Ford in 1985, and finished runner up in German Formula Three in 1989. Three seasons of racing in Japan followed before Sauber signed him for 1994.

He made his debut at the 1994 Brazilian Grand Prix and stayed with Sauber for three seasons, taking his first podium at the 1995 Italian Grand Prix. Williams then chose him to replace champion Damon Hill for 1997, alongside Jacques Villeneuve. He won the San Marino Grand Prix at Imola that April, took his first pole position at Monaco, and finished the season second in the championship.

After a difficult 1998 at Williams he moved to Jordan, and 1999 became his best season. He won the French Grand Prix at Magny Cours and the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, took six podiums, and finished third in the standings behind Mika Häkkinen and Eddie Irvine.

Results were harder to find after that. He left Jordan during 2001 and finished the year with Prost, then raced for Arrows and Sauber before retiring at the end of 2003, a season in which he took a final podium with third place at the United States Grand Prix. His record shows 156 starts, 3 wins, 2 pole positions, 6 fastest laps and 18 podiums. He later raced in the DTM from 2004 to 2006.

0 world titles, 3 wins, 2 pole positions, 156 starts.
