Nicola Larini

Italian racecar driver

Second for Ferrari at San Marino

Nicola Larini raced in Formula One between 1987 and 1997, and his one podium came as a Ferrari substitute at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix.

Born in Camaiore, Nicola Larini won the Italian Formula Three title with Coloni in 1986, and the team gave him his first Formula One start at the 1987 Spanish Grand Prix. Seasons with Osella, Ligier and the Lambo team followed, often with more entries than starts.

His best day came as a Ferrari substitute in 1994, when he finished second at the San Marino Grand Prix, a race weekend overshadowed by tragedy. He scored only once more, with sixth for Sauber at the 1997 Australian Grand Prix, and his final start came at Monaco that year, his 49th. He found greater success in touring cars with Alfa Romeo, winning the Italian Superturismo title in 1992 and the German DTM in 1993.
