Fifteen Seasons Without a Victory

Andrea de Cesaris raced in Formula One from 1980 to 1994, starting 208 Grands Prix and finishing on the podium five times without a win.

Born in Rome, Andrea de Cesaris came through karting and British Formula Three, where he was runner up in 1979, before Alfa Romeo gave him his Formula One debut at the 1980 Canadian Grand Prix. A season with McLaren followed in 1981, and back at Alfa Romeo in 1982 he took pole position at the United States Grand Prix West in Long Beach, the only pole of his career.

His best results came with Alfa Romeo: third at Monaco in 1982, then second in Germany and in South Africa in 1983. Later podiums followed with Brabham in Belgium in 1987 and with Dallara in Canada in 1989. Across 208 starts for teams including Ligier, Minardi, Rial, Jordan, Tyrrell and Sauber he never won, a record for starts without victory that stood until 2024. He later raced in Grand Prix Masters and died in a motorcycle accident in Rome in 2014.

0 world titles, 0 wins, 1 pole positions, 208 starts.
