Dallara's Years as a Constructor

Better known for supplying the junior series, Dallara spent five seasons as a Formula One constructor with BMS Scuderia Italia and took two podiums.

Giampaolo Dallara, who had worked for Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini and De Tomaso, founded his company in 1972 at Varano de' Melegari near Parma. It built sports cars and then a long line of Formula Three cars before BMS Scuderia Italia hired it to build its Formula One chassis in 1988.

The partnership lasted from 1988 to 1992, and Dallara cars started 78 Grands Prix. Andrea de Cesaris finished third in Canada in 1989 and JJ Lehto did the same at San Marino in 1991, the two podiums of that era. Dallara later built the first Hispania cars for 2010 and has designed the Haas cars since that team arrived. Today it is best known as the sole supplier for IndyCar, Formula 2, Formula 3 and Super Formula.
