Minardi's Most Faithful Driver

Pierluigi Martini spent nearly all of his Formula One career with Minardi, racing for the team in three separate spells between 1985 and 1995.

Born in Lugo, Pierluigi Martini was runner up to Ivan Capelli in International Formula 3000 in 1986. He drove for Minardi in its first season in 1985, beginning at the Brazilian Grand Prix, and returned to the team in 1988, scoring its first championship point with sixth at the Detroit Grand Prix.

His best finishes were two fourth places in 1991, at San Marino and in Portugal, with the Ferrari powered Minardi. After a year with Dallara in 1992 he came back to Minardi again and raced on until the 1995 German Grand Prix, ending with 118 starts and no podiums. Away from Formula One he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1999 with BMW.
