Five Time Le Mans Winner

Emanuele Pirro raced in Formula One from 1989 to 1991 for Benetton and Dallara, then won Le Mans five times with Audi.

Born in Rome, Emanuele Pirro was twice Italian karting champion and spent 1988 as a McLaren test driver. Benetton gave him his Formula One debut at the 1989 French Grand Prix, standing in for Johnny Herbert, and he finished fifth in Australia at the end of that season.

He moved to Dallara for 1990 and 1991, and his only other points came with sixth at the 1991 Monaco Grand Prix. His Formula One career closed at the 1991 Australian Grand Prix with 37 starts. He found far greater success in touring and sports cars, winning the Italian Superturismo title twice and the 24 Hours of Le Mans five times with Audi.
