China's First Formula One Driver

Zhou Guanyu raced in Formula One from 2022 to 2024 with Alfa Romeo and Sauber, the first Chinese driver to compete in the championship.

Born in Shanghai, Zhou Guanyu moved to Britain as a teenager to race karts and later finished third in Formula 2 in 2021, after test roles with Renault and Alpine. Alfa Romeo signed him for 2022, and at the Bahrain Grand Prix he became the first Chinese driver to start a Formula One race, scoring a point with tenth place.

His best finish came later that year with eighth in Canada. He stayed with the team for three seasons as it became Kick Sauber, and in 2024 his eighth place at the Qatar Grand Prix produced the team's only points of the year. He left after the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix with 68 starts and has since served as a reserve driver for Cadillac.
