Force India, Punching Above Its Weight

Built from the old Jordan lineage at Silverstone, Force India became a regular points scorer before financial collapse ended it in 2018.

Force India was formed in 2007 when a consortium led by Vijay Mallya and Michiel Mol bought the Spyker team, the latest form of the outfit Jordan had founded at Silverstone. Racing with an Indian license, later as Sahara Force India, it started 203 Grands Prix from 2008 to 2018 under its original entry.

Its breakthrough came at the 2009 Belgian Grand Prix, where Giancarlo Fisichella started from pole and finished second. Sergio Pérez added five third places, and Adrian Sutil, Nico Hülkenberg, Paul di Resta and Esteban Ocon were among its other drivers. In 2018, with Mallya unable to keep funding it, the team went into administration. A consortium led by Lawrence Stroll bought its assets and created Racing Point Force India to finish that season.
