The 2009 season

The Team That Won Everything, Once

Built from what Honda left behind, Brawn GP read the new rules best, won six of the opening seven races and took both titles in its only season.

Brawn GP raced for exactly one season and won both championships in it. The rules for 2009 had been rewritten from top to bottom: slick tires returned, the wings were redrawn to help one car follow another, and energy recovery systems, known as KERS, appeared for the first time, while testing during the season was banned to save money. Into this new world came a team created by a management buyout of Honda's operation, running Mercedes engines.
