Sebastian Vettel

German racing driver

Four straight titles with Red Bull

Sebastian Vettel went from a Toro Rosso upset at Monza to four consecutive championships, then raced on with Ferrari and Aston Martin until 2022.

Sebastian Vettel was born in Heppenheim, Germany, on July 3, 1987. He started karting at eight, won the junior European karting title in 2001, and then dominated Formula BMW ADAC in 2004 with 18 wins from 20 races. After the Formula 3 Euro Series he became a test driver for BMW Sauber, and he made his Formula 1 debut for that team at the 2007 United States Grand Prix.

Later in 2007 he moved to Toro Rosso as part of the Red Bull Junior Team. At the 2008 Italian Grand Prix he took both his first pole position and his first win, becoming at the time the youngest winner of a Grand Prix. Red Bull promoted him for 2009 and he finished second to Jenson Button that year.

Then came the run that defines him. He won the 2010 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to clinch the title and became the youngest champion in the sport's history. He was champion again in 2011, in 2012 after a close fight with Fernando Alonso, and in 2013, a year in which he won 13 races, nine of them in a row.

Vettel joined Ferrari for 2015 and was runner up to Lewis Hamilton in 2017 and 2018. His last win came at the 2019 Singapore Grand Prix. He spent 2021 and 2022 with Aston Martin, taking a final podium in Azerbaijan in 2021, and retired after the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Our record lists 299 starts, 53 wins, 57 pole positions, 38 fastest laps and 122 podiums across 16 seasons. Away from Grand Prix racing he won the Race of Champions in 2015, and since 2023 he has been a co owner of the Germany SailGP Team.

4 world titles, 53 wins, 57 pole positions, 299 starts.
