The 2003 season

Eight Winners and a Two Point Finish

New scoring and qualifying rules opened up the field, eight different drivers won, and Michael Schumacher held off Kimi Räikkönen by two points at the last race.

After a year of total Ferrari control, the sport changed the rules to see what would happen. Qualifying became a single flying lap per driver, and no fuel could be added or removed between qualifying and the race. Points now went to the first eight finishers rather than six, from ten for a win down to one for eighth, and team orders that affected a race result were outlawed. The experiment worked. Across sixteen rounds, eight different drivers won Grands Prix.
