Spain's First Team on the Grid

Born as Campos Meta and raced as Hispania and then HRT, Spain's first Formula One team lasted three seasons at the back of the field.

The team began as Campos Meta, a project led by former driver Adrián Campos with the Madrid sports agency Meta Image. Before it raced, it passed to businessman José Ramón Carabante, and it made its debut in 2010 as Hispania Racing, the first Spanish team to compete in Formula One. Investment group Thesan Capital bought it in 2011, and it raced on as HRT with Cosworth engines.

Across 2010 to 2012 it started 56 Grands Prix without scoring a point, its best finish a thirteenth place for Vitantonio Liuzzi in Canada in 2011. Bruno Senna, Karun Chandhok, Narain Karthikeyan, Pedro de la Rosa and a young Daniel Ricciardo all drove for it. When the owners could not find a buyer late in 2012, the team was left off the entry list for 2013.
