The 2011 season

Vettel, Out of Reach

With new Pirelli tires and the first adjustable rear wings, Sebastian Vettel won eleven races and kept his title with four rounds to spare.

The sport handed everyone new tools in 2011, and the champion used them best. Pirelli came back as the only tire supplier, its first season in the sport since 1991, with compounds built to wear out and force more pit stops. The Drag Reduction System, a rear wing the driver could open to help overtaking, made its debut, and double diffusers were banned. Bahrain was cancelled and India held its first Grand Prix, leaving nineteen rounds.
