The 2010 season

Four Contenders, One Final Twist

Five drivers won races, four arrived in Abu Dhabi with a chance, and Sebastian Vettel led the championship for the first time only when it was over.

Sebastian Vettel led the 2010 championship for precisely one moment: after the final race. As uses of a points lead go, it was admirably efficient. The season was built for unpredictability. Refueling was banned, points now ran from 25 for a win down to one for tenth, and Virgin, Lotus and Hispania arrived as new teams. Brawn had become Mercedes GP, and Michael Schumacher came back after three years away to drive for it. Across nineteen rounds five drivers won, and nobody pulled clear.
