Racing Point's Sakhir Surprise

Lawrence Stroll's rescue of Force India became Racing Point, which won a Grand Prix in its second and final season before turning into Aston Martin.

Racing Point was created after a consortium led by Lawrence Stroll bought the assets of Force India in 2018, after that team entered administration. The rescued team finished that season as Racing Point Force India, then raced from 2019 as Racing Point, based at Silverstone with a British license and Mercedes power. Its roots ran back through Force India, Spyker and Midland to Jordan Grand Prix.

Sergio Pérez and Lance Stroll drove for the team in both of its seasons under the new name, and Racing Point started 38 Grands Prix. In 2020 Stroll took pole position in Turkey and Pérez won the Sakhir Grand Prix, with Stroll third behind him. For 2021 the team was rebranded as Aston Martin.
