The First Dutch Podium Finisher

Jos Verstappen raced in Formula One from 1994 to 2003 and became the first Dutch driver to finish on the podium.

Born in Montfort, Jos Verstappen won the German Formula Three title in his rookie season in 1993 and joined Benetton as a test driver. He made his Formula One debut at the 1994 Brazilian Grand Prix in place of the injured JJ Lehto, and later that season finished third in Hungary and in Belgium, the first podium for a Dutch driver.

The rest of his career took him to Simtek, Footwork, Tyrrell and Stewart, then three seasons with Arrows from 2000, where fourth place was his best result. After a year away he finished with Minardi in 2003, his last race being the Japanese Grand Prix, with 106 starts and two podiums. He later won the LMP2 class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2008 and has competed in rallying.
