Teddy Yip's Hong Kong Team

Property magnate Teddy Yip brought a Hong Kong team into Formula One, and Theodore later became a record winner of the Macau Grand Prix.

Theodore Racing was founded by Hong Kong property magnate Teddy Yip, an amateur racer who had backed drivers such as Vern Schuppan and Alan Jones. Run by Sid Taylor, it entered an Ensign for Patrick Tambay in 1977 before commissioning its own car from Ron Tauranac. Keke Rosberg won the non championship International Trophy with it in the wet but started only one Grand Prix.

After funding Ensign and buying the fading Shadow team, Yip returned with a new Theodore designed by Tony Southgate. Tambay finished sixth at Long Beach in 1981, a result Johnny Cecotto matched there in 1983, after Theodore had merged with Ensign. Theodore cars started 34 Grands Prix across 1978 and 1981 to 1983. The team went on to win the Macau Grand Prix a record number of times.
