Scuderia Lancia

Lancia's motorsport career in Formula 1, Rally and Endurance racing.

Lancia's Brief Grand Prix Adventure

The racing department of the Turin carmaker spent less than a season and a half in Formula One, fast in qualifying but short of results.

Scuderia Lancia was the racing workshop of the Lancia car company, created by Gianni Lancia, son of the brand's founder, and based in Turin. It made its name in sports car events such as the Carrera Panamericana, the Targa Florio and the Mille Miglia before entering Formula One with its own cars and engines.

Its debut at the 1954 Spanish Grand Prix showed real speed, with Alberto Ascari taking pole and the fastest lap. In 1955 Eugenio Castellotti finished second at Monaco and started from pole in Belgium, while Luigi Villoresi and Louis Chiron also drove. The team started just 4 Grands Prix and made its last entry in Belgium that year. Lancia later found far greater success in endurance racing and rallying.
