Forti's Short Climb to the Top

A winning junior formula team from Alessandria, Forti reached Formula One in 1995 and ran out of money halfway through its second season.

Forti was founded by Guido Forti, a former driver, and engineer Paolo Guerci, and was based in Alessandria in northern Italy. It became a regular winner in the junior categories, taking Italian Formula Three titles and Formula 3000 race wins. A relationship with the Brazilian businessman Abílio Diniz, whose son Pedro drove for the team, gave it the budget to step up to Formula One in 1995.

The first car was uncompetitive, and Pedro Diniz's seventh place in Australia was the team's best result. Roberto Moreno also drove that year, and Luca Badoer and Andrea Montermini took over in 1996 after Diniz left for Ligier with much of the sponsorship. Forti started 23 Grands Prix without scoring a point and collapsed financially midway through 1996, its final entry being the British Grand Prix.
