Romanian born German dentist who ran the Jordan team through its Midland, Spyker and Force India years and later led Hispania Racing

Colin Kolles was born Călin Colesnic in Timișoara and qualified as a dentist, his family's trade. In 2000 he and his father Romulus set up a team in German Formula Three, and on the 19th of January 2005 the new owner of Jordan, Alex Shnaider, made him managing director of the Formula One team.

He stayed in charge as the team passed from Jordan to Midland, Spyker and Force India, until Vijay Mallya assumed the principal's job for 2009. Later he was team principal of Hispania Racing. His first profession never quite left him: on the eve of the Turkish Grand Prix in 2005 he performed dental surgery on his own driver, Tiago Monteiro, and he did the same for Christijan Albers in 2006. Few team bosses can fix both the car and the driver's smile.
