Roy Salvadori raced in Formula One from 1952 to 1962, finishing on the podium twice for Cooper in 1958, and won Le Mans in 1959.

Born in Dovercourt to parents of Italian descent, Roy Salvadori made his name on British airfield circuits after the war. He made his World Championship debut in a Ferrari at the 1952 British Grand Prix, then drove for Connaught, Maserati, BRM and Vanwall in the years that followed.

His best season came with Cooper in 1958, when he finished third at the British Grand Prix and second in Germany. He also raced for Aston Martin and Lola before retiring from Formula One after the 1962 South African Grand Prix, with 47 starts. In 1959 he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans for Aston Martin with Carroll Shelby, and he later managed the Cooper team. He died in 2012.
