New Zealand racing driver

Five Poles and No Victory

Chris Amon raced in Formula One from 1963 to 1976, taking five pole positions and 11 podiums without winning a championship Grand Prix.

Born in Bulls, New Zealand, Chris Amon made his Formula One debut at the 1963 Monaco Grand Prix and won the 24 Hours of Le Mans for Ford in 1966. Ferrari signed him for 1967, and he finished third four times that season, starting at Monaco. In 1968 he took three pole positions, in Spain, Belgium and the Netherlands, and was second at the British Grand Prix, yet mechanical failures denied him a win.

He moved to March in 1970 for two second places, then to Matra, with pole at Monza in 1971 and in France in 1972. Later years brought outings with Tecno, Tyrrell, his own Amon team, BRM, Ensign and Wolf Williams before he stopped after 1976. His 96 starts produced 11 podiums. He died in 2016.

0 world titles, 0 wins, 5 pole positions, 96 starts.
