Larrousse and a Podium at Suzuka

Gérard Larrousse's French team raced Lola, Venturi and its own chassis for eight seasons and earned one memorable podium.

Larrousse was founded by former racer Gérard Larrousse and Didier Calmels, first as Larrousse & Calmels, and was based in Antony near Paris before moving to Signes in the south of France. It began in 1987 with a Lola built car for Philippe Alliot and later added Lamborghini V12 power. From 1989 the team raced under the Larrousse name alone.

Its best season was 1990, when Aguri Suzuki finished third at the Japanese Grand Prix in front of his home crowd, the team's only podium. After running Venturi cars in 1992 it raced chassis under its own name in 1993 and 1994, with Érik Comas and Alliot scoring points. Financial problems ended the team after the 1994 Australian Grand Prix.
