The 1995 season

Benetton's Year, Schumacher's Second Crown

Two teams shared Renault engines and almost every race, and Michael Schumacher's nine wins brought him a second title and Benetton its only constructors' crown.

Two teams with the same engine won sixteen of the seventeen races in 1995. Benetton had moved to Renault power, which Williams already used, and between them they left only Canada for anyone else. That exception belonged to Ferrari's Jean Alesi, who won on his 31st birthday, the single victory of his career and the last ever for a V12, which is about as good as birthday presents get. The calendar ran to seventeen rounds, a number not seen since 1977, and engines had been cut from 3.5 liters to 3 for the sake of safety.
