The 1977 season

Lauda Wins the Long Way Round

A year after his Nürburgring crash, Niki Lauda won a second title through relentless consistency while Mario Andretti's Lotus won the most races.

The 1977 calendar stretched to seventeen rounds, the longest season yet, from Buenos Aires on January 9 to Fuji on October 23, and the wins were shared among eight different drivers. Mario Andretti and Lotus won four, more than anyone. Jody Scheckter gave the new Wolf team victory at the opening round and then added Monaco and Mosport Park, a start most new teams can only imagine.
