Third at Monza in a Connaught

Ron Flockhart started 13 World Championship races between 1954 and 1960, finished third at Monza in 1956 and won Le Mans twice.

Born in Edinburgh, Ron Flockhart began racing in 1951 and made his name in an ERA before making his World Championship debut in a shared Maserati at the 1954 British Grand Prix.

His best result came at the 1956 Italian Grand Prix, where he drove a Connaught from twenty third on the grid to third place. He drove for BRM in several seasons, scoring sixth at the 1959 French Grand Prix, and his last start came at the 1960 United States Grand Prix in a Cooper. With Ecurie Ecosse he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1956 and again a year later. He was killed in 1962 in an aircraft crash in Australia while preparing a record attempt.
