Scotland's Blue Stable Visits Silverstone

Edinburgh's Ecurie Ecosse made its name at Le Mans, but it also brought its blue cars to three British Grands Prix.

Ecurie Ecosse was founded in Edinburgh in 1951 by businessman and racing driver David Murray with mechanic Wilkie Wilkinson. Its cars wore a distinctive metallic blue, and its greatest days came in sports car racing, where it won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1956 and 1957.

Its World Championship story is brief and entirely British. Murray drove a Cooper at the 1952 British Grand Prix, Jimmy Stewart and Ian Stewart took a Cooper and a Connaught to the same race in 1953, and Leslie Thorne drove the Connaught there in 1954. After that the team concentrated on sports cars, and the name was later revived for sports car racing by Hugh McCaig.
