Gerhard Berger across fourteen seasons

Gerhard Berger won ten Grands Prix for Benetton, Ferrari and McLaren, bookending Benetton's entire winning history in the process.

Gerhard Berger was born in Wörgl, Austria, on 27 August 1959. A race winner in European Formula Three, he reached Formula 1 with ATS at his home event, the 1984 Austrian Grand Prix, and spent 1985 at Arrows, scoring his first points in the last two races of that season.

His career took off at Benetton in 1986. With a powerful BMW turbo behind him he won the Mexican Grand Prix, the first win for the Benetton team. Ferrari signed him for 1987, and he won the last two races of that year in Japan and Australia. In 1988 he won the Italian Grand Prix at Monza and finished third in the championship, and in 1989 he won in Portugal.

From 1990 to 1992 he partnered Ayrton Senna at McLaren, helping the team to the constructors' titles in 1990 and 1991. He won the 1991 Japanese Grand Prix and, in 1992, the Canadian and Australian rounds. Back at Ferrari from 1993, he won the 1994 German Grand Prix at Hockenheim and again placed third overall that year. He finished his career at Benetton, and his win in Germany in 1997 was the last for that team, eleven years after his first.

Berger retired after the 1997 season with 210 starts, 10 wins, 12 pole positions, 21 fastest laps and 48 podiums. He returned to the sport in 2006 as co owner of Toro Rosso, selling his share back to Red Bull at the end of 2008.
