Points on Debut for Ferrari

Arturo Merzario raced in Formula One from 1972 to 1979, scoring points on his Ferrari debut and later running his own team.

Born in Civenna, Arturo Merzario made his name in sports cars, winning the Targa Florio and the Spa 1000 km in 1972. That same year Ferrari gave him his Formula One debut at the British Grand Prix, where he scored a point with sixth place.

He finished fourth twice for Ferrari in 1973, in Brazil and South Africa, and again for Iso Marlboro at the 1974 Italian Grand Prix. Later seasons took him to Williams, Fittipaldi, March, Wolf Williams and Shadow. At the 1976 German Grand Prix he was among the drivers who stopped to pull Niki Lauda from his burning car. In 1977 he founded his own Merzario team, and his Formula One career ended at the 1979 United States Grand Prix, with 57 starts from 84 entries.
