The Fittipaldi Brothers' Brazilian Team

Wilson and Emerson Fittipaldi built Formula One's only Brazil based team, backed by a sugar cooperative and remembered for three podiums.

Brothers Wilson and Emerson Fittipaldi founded the team with money from Copersucar, a Brazilian sugar and alcohol cooperative, and its cars carried the Copersucar name until the end of 1979. It began in São Paulo, the only Formula One team ever based in Brazil, before moving to Reading in England. Wilson drove its first car in 1975, and Emerson, already a two time champion, joined from McLaren the following year.

The team started 103 Grands Prix from 1975 to 1982. Emerson's second place at his home race in Brazil in 1978 was its best result, and in 1980 Keke Rosberg took his first podium with a third in Argentina before Emerson added another third at Long Beach. Chico Serra also drove for the team, which made its final entry at the 1982 Caesars Palace Grand Prix.
