Shannon Racing Cars

British Formula One constructor

Shannon's Single Grand Prix

Shannon Racing Cars built one Formula One car around a long shelved Climax engine and raced it once, at the 1966 British Grand Prix.

Shannon Racing Cars was a small British constructor led by Aiden Jones, once a mechanic for Prince Bira and Prince Chula, and Paul Emery, the former Emeryson designer who built its car. The Shannon SH1 had a steel monocoque and an unusual engine, a Coventry Climax V8 that had been built for Kieft more than a decade earlier and never raced. Emery converted it to the new three liter rules.

Trevor Taylor drove the car at the 1966 British Grand Prix, the team's only World Championship start, and retired early in the race. Shannon never returned to Formula One, and the car went on to race in Formula Three.
