BS Fabrications

British engineering company and Formula One entrant

BS Fabrications and Piquet's First Steps

A Luton engineering firm that ran private cars for paying customers, BS Fabrications gave Nelson Piquet some of his earliest Grand Prix starts.

BS Fabrications was founded in Luton by Bob Sparshott, a former Lotus engineer who had worked with Jim Clark and Graham Hill, and John Woodington. It specialized in fabrication work for Formula One teams and also ran private cars for customers. In 1976 it entered a Surtees for Henri Pescarolo, who finished ninth in Austria.

Brett Lunger drove a McLaren for the team in 1977 and 1978. After switching to the newer McLaren M26 he finished seventh in Belgium and eighth in Britain and Austria, the best results of his career. For the last three races of 1978 the team placed the rookie Nelson Piquet in its older car, and he finished ninth at Monza. The team never scored a point and later ran in Formula Two and Formula 3000.
