Audi Arrives as a Works Team

Built on the long running Sauber operation in Hinwil, Audi entered Formula One in 2026 as both constructor and engine maker.

Audi's path to Formula One ran through Sauber. The German manufacturer announced in 2022 that it would acquire the Swiss team and its Hinwil facilities ahead of the new rules for 2026, adding an engine facility in Bavaria and a technology center in Oxfordshire. Its predecessor Auto Union had raced in Grands Prix before the Second World War, but the 2026 season is Audi's first as a World Championship constructor.

Competing as the Audi Revolut F1 Team with its own power unit, it has Mattia Binotto as team principal and Gabriel Bortoleto and Nico Hülkenberg as drivers. Through the rounds held so far it has started 15 Grands Prix, with eighth places for Bortoleto in Britain and Belgium and for Hülkenberg in the Netherlands as its best results. The 2026 championship is still being decided.
