Andrea Moda's Single Start

A shoe designer's takeover of the Coloni team produced one of the least successful entries in Formula One history, lasting part of 1992.

Andrea Moda Formula was owned by Italian shoe designer Andrea Sassetti and named after his company, based in Civitanova Marche. Sassetti bought the struggling Coloni team late in 1991 and fitted a Judd engine to a chassis Simtek had originally designed for BMW. The team was excluded from the opening race in South Africa for not paying the deposit required of new entrants, and its cars were not ready in Mexico.

Roberto Moreno and Perry McCarthy then took over the driving. Moreno qualified once, at the 1992 Monaco Grand Prix, and retired from the race, the team's only start. After both cars failed to qualify in Belgium, the FIA expelled Andrea Moda for the rest of the season for failing to run the team to the standards of the championship.
