The 1982 season

Eleven Winners and One Champion

A season of strikes, boycotts and loss produced eleven different winners, and Keke Rosberg took the title with a single victory.

No season of the era was harder to follow, or harder to watch. It began with the drivers on strike at Kyalami in January over the terms of a new super license and ended in a Las Vegas car park in September. In between, eleven drivers from seven teams won the sixteen rounds, nobody won more than twice, and nine races in a row, from Monaco to Dijon, went to nine different men. Anyone who claimed to know who would win next was guessing.
