The 1968 season

Graham Hill Holds Lotus Together

In a year of wings, sponsor liveries and heavy loss, Graham Hill steadied Lotus after Jim Clark's death and won a three way finale in Mexico.

Few seasons changed the look of Formula One as quickly as 1968. Sponsorship was opened up, and by the second round Lotus had swapped British racing green for the red, gold and white of Gold Leaf. Wings appeared on the Lotus at Monaco and within weeks were perched on struts high above the cars. It was also a year of grief. Four Grand Prix drivers were killed, Jim Clark, Mike Spence, Ludovico Scarfiotti and Jo Schlesser, three of them in other events.
