The 1967 season

Hulme's Steady Year, Clark's Fast One

The Lotus 49 was the fastest car of 1967, but Denny Hulme's consistency in the Brabham won the title without a single pole position.

Two ideas competed in 1967. The Brabham team, champions the year before, made a habit of finishing races. Lotus, from the third round onward, had the new Cosworth DFV engine, paid for by Ford, which was usually the fastest thing on the track whenever it held together. The season came down to which of those qualities mattered more.
