English driver and team manager from Derby who led Aston Martin into Formula One and founded Reg Parnell Racing

Reg Parnell, from Derby, raced at Brooklands before the war and bought up racing cars that he later sold to form the backbone of postwar British entries. He drove in seven World Championship Grands Prix, finishing on the podium once, and raced his own Ferrari in nonchampionship Formula One events, with wins in 1954 at Crystal Palace, Snetterton and Goodwood.

As Aston Martin's team manager he oversaw its one two finish at Le Mans in 1959, then led its Formula One program until the end of 1960. He ran the Yeoman Credit and Bowmaker teams for Roy Salvadori and John Surtees, and after 1962 set up Reg Parnell Racing, which ran a young Chris Amon. He died in January 1964, aged 52, and his son Tim took over the team.
