British engineer who founded and owned the Simtek Formula One team and later founded Wirth Research

Nick Wirth studied at Sevenoaks School and took a first class degree in mechanical engineering at University College London, and he became the youngest person ever made a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. He worked as an aerodynamicist at March.

He founded Simtek Grand Prix, which first raced in 1994, and between the autumn of 1993 and the summer of 1995 he owned it and served as its technical director. He later served as technical director at Benetton, and in 2009 his Wirth Design joined forces with John Booth's Manor to build the car for the 2010 season, with Wirth as technical director of the team that became Virgin Racing. Owning a team at 27 is precocious even by engineering standards.
