Belgian driver and team owner who ran Ecurie Francorchamps and managed Ecurie Nationale Belge into Formula One

Jacques Swaters first raced in the Spa 24 Hours, in an MG shared with his friend Paul Frère. In 1950 the two of them and André Pilette founded Ecurie Belgique, and Swaters drove a yellow Talbot Lago at the German and Italian Grands Prix of 1951. Yellow was, after all, Belgium's racing color.

From 1952 he ran Ecurie Francorchamps, a stable closely tied to Ferrari, and won the 1953 Avusrennen in its Ferrari 500. After retiring from driving in 1957 he managed Ecurie Nationale Belge, formed in 1955 from the merger of three Belgian teams, which helped launch Lucien and Mauro Bianchi and Olivier Gendebien and entered Formula One in 1960. He died on the 10th of December 2010.
