British Le Mans winner and Formula One driver who cofounded Arrows and ran it from 1978 to 1996

Jackie Oliver won Le Mans and Sebring in 1969 and Daytona in 1971, and started 52 Grands Prix for Shadow, McLaren, BRM and Lotus, finishing on the podium in Mexico in 1968 and Canada in 1973. With Shadow he won the CanAm title in 1974 and became steadily more involved in running the team.

At the end of 1977 he left Shadow taking Alan Rees and Tony Southgate, the engineer Dave Wass, driver Riccardo Patrese and backer Franco Ambrosio to found Arrows. He was its team principal from 1978 to 1996, selling much of his stake to Footwork in 1990 and most of the rest to Tom Walkinshaw's group in 1996. Arrows started 382 Grands Prix, a record, without winning one, which is its own kind of endurance title.
