Guido Forti set up Forti Corse in the late 1970s together with the businessman Paolo Guerci, first fielding cars in Formula Three in Italy and Europe. In 1987 the team stepped up to Formula 3000 with Nicola Larini and Nicola Tesini, and Gianni Morbidelli gave it the first of nine wins in that category in 1990.

With backing from the Brazilian driver Pedro Diniz, Forti took the team into Formula One in 1995. When Diniz moved to Ligier for 1996, the money became harder to find, and the team missed several Grands Prix in the middle of that season and did not return. Forti worked with a Formula 3000 team as late as 2003. He died in Alessandria, his home city, in January 2013, aged 72.
