Graham Hill

British two time world champion who founded his own Hill team in 1973

Graham Hill rowed for London Rowing Club, first raced in Formula Three at 25, and started at Lotus on the tools before earning a drive. He went on to win two world titles, five Monaco Grands Prix and the Indianapolis 500, and with victory at Le Mans in 1972 he became the one driver to have won the Triple Crown of Motorsport.

In 1973 he set up his own team, first running Shadow and Lola chassis and then turning the Lola into a design of its own for 1975. When he missed the cut at Monaco that year, a race he had won five times, he retired from the cockpit to manage the team and back his protégé Tony Brise. On the 29th of November 1975 Hill, Brise and four members of the team died when Hill's light aircraft crashed on its approach to Elstree in fog.
