Gabriele Rumi

Italian alloy wheel maker who owned the Osella and Fondmetal team and was majority owner of Minardi

Gabriele Rumi took over his grandfather's iron foundry in Brescia in 1961, moved it into light alloy parts for vehicles in 1970, and in 1972 founded his own alloy wheel company, Fondmetal. His first steps into Formula One were as a sponsor of his countryman Piercarlo Ghinzani.

He bought Osella in 1990 and the next year renamed it Fondmetal, closing it at the end of 1992 because of the cost, although his company stayed in the sport by renting out its wind tunnel. He returned as an owner with the consortium that bought Minardi in 1996, became its majority shareholder in 1997 and sold his shares at the end of 2000. He died on the 21st of May 2001, aged 61.
