Andreas Seidl studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Munich and spent the 2000s in Formula One with BMW. When BMW left, he managed its return to the DTM in 2012, then joined Porsche's LMP1 squad in 2013 and became its team principal the following year.

McLaren named him team principal on the 10th of January 2019, and he started work that May. He left at the end of 2022 to become chief executive of Sauber Motorsport as it prepared to become Audi's works team, and in March 2024 he was announced as chief executive of the Audi Formula One project. He departed on the 1st of August 2024, handing over to Mattia Binotto. For a man who spent his career on endurance programs, the corporate relay was rather short.
